Moira Our Little Princess                                      20th August, 2021

                                                 Moira’s Passion & Exuberance

Hi Moira Bonjour

We are extremely charmed to write for the first time to you little sweetheart on your 1st Happy Birthday. We wish you keep this communication with you safe and show it to your friends when you grow a little older and Lord willing start going to school. How about asking your Papa-Mama to take a large printout to be displayed in your room?

Dear several decades back, on the early morning of 20th August, your Grand Ma (Rita) had labor pains. I was those days working with a Company at Parwanoo (HP).  A company cab drove us to a Nursing home in Chandigarh (about 30 Km.) away. Oh! Dear, it was so painful for your Grand Ma with your Papa in her tummy to bear several bumps on the way. After a little while the Dr. in the Nursing home came out of the delivery room and conveyed the good news that we were blessed with a son you’re Papa (Sunny) was born i.e. on 20th August. As luck would have it, the story somewhat similar was repeated after going down a couple of decades in the memory lane.  Last year in the early morning of 20th  August, your Papa called us up from Canberra (Australia) your home city to convey that dear Anjali your loving mother (our daughter-in-law) was in labor pains and that she was admitted to a hospital. We were worried and anxious for her safe delivery and so were Dr.Pradiman and Dr.Promila Bakaya (your loving maternal grandparents). After a couple of hours, our anxiety was over when your Papa called us up from Canberra to give us the good news that we were blessed with a nice little cute baby doll-epitome of our love i.e., you Moira. So your Papa and Moira, our little angel & honey have a common birthday i.e. 20th August.

There was lot of exuberance and excitement and we thank your loving Papa and Mama for bringing you on to this planet. CHEERS MOIRA. Our little queen you are completing your 1st year on the planet today. No gift can come anywhere close to what you have been all these 365 days. Each moment with you is a priceless flash. The way you mumble Papa-Mama’s name is surely startling and recently started murmuring Dadoo (Grand Pa) name sounds amazing, a real treat to watch.

We have extreme joyfulness to dedicate this blog post to celebrate and honor you, our little Lily flower on your happy 1st birthday. We are yet to cuddle, embrace, hug and hold you physically because of travel restrictions internationally but we do feel your essence each instant. Your Papa has been keeping the spirit fresh and alive by mailing us pictures, videos almost every second day. Both of us keep talking about your pictures and videos. At times it is so refreshing and charming to have a little video chat with you and watch your frolics and clowning around your sweet home. Your passionate smiles, giggles, and at times hilarious laughter speak volumes of your fervor and excitement's.     This happily takes us back in the memory lane when our children Barkha (our daughter and your aunt) and your Papa were on to similar clowning around with our late parents. Oh! Yes, our grandson Aashman (your 1st paternal cousin, Barkha & Nitin’s son), a decade or so back used to do the same antics at his home in the US and we would watch him like you on the videos.

Little beloved Moira, our treasured, you look surely ‘be- all- and-end- all’ for us and are an embodiment and essence of love, happiness, and above all prayers.

It is really difficult for us to pen down our soul-stirring feelings. Your chuckle, giggles, and hilarity do speak volumes of your love for all of us.

With all the Blessings and lots of Love and Ashirwad, we pray that God be with you all the time.

                 Why Grandparents Are So Important

Grandparents often offer much more incompetent love than they did when they were parents. They may sometimes get to do all the fun stuff of nurturing kids, babysitting, and for all the hard parts of being a parent. I am sure most of you when being toddlers would have sat in the laps of your grand Pa and Ma innumerable times. There may have been occasions when you might have made your nappy/ diaper wet but your grandparents would have giggled and laughed and said ‘never mind my dearest’. Decades back, when our children were in their infancy and growing, I would invariably find my late parents giving extra love and appreciation and saying yes to their all reasonable and unreasonable wishes. This I believe made the kids often a pampered lot. Today I realize what place grandkids have in the heart and soul of grandparents.

The way Moira, our granddaughter giggles and feels hilarious is surely amusing. I recall when I was a school kid; my late mother would admonish me whenever I had a hefty laugh.  She felt it was arrogance and not in tune with the discipline. But today who cares, whenever the occasion demands, I do laugh loudly from the core of my soul and so does surprisingly our grandkid Moira. So do occasionally Barkha, our daughter and so did my late father? Perhaps it is to do with our legacy. I guess laughing loudly is a depiction of transparency and being inside-out and above all passionate and loving. When I laugh, I bet neighbors around know whose bang and bashing laughter is this.   Isn’t life a full circle when we watch small kids filling our hearts with laughter and bringing happiness and humor to our being? There are no fears and tensions just oneness everywhere.

Studies show that as many as 9 out of 10 adult grandchildren feel that their grandparents influenced their beliefs and values. A 2014 study at Boston College, US found that “an emotionally close relationship between grandparent and grandchild is associated with fewer symptoms of depression for both generations.” For kids, grandparents are always best and lovable buddies to play with and have fun. They are some of the best partners when it comes to utilizing creativity and imagination to discover the wonders of life. According to the American Grandparents Association, “72% of grandparents think being a grandparent is the single most important and satisfying thing in their life”. Those of us who are grandparents are a valuable reserve because we have so many experiences from our own lives to share. Yes, surprisingly, often children will listen to grandparents even when they are not listening to their parents or other adults around. “Studies have shown that close grandparent-grandchild relationships during the teenage years are associated with less behavioral and emotional problems and fewer social difficulties with peers. Grandparents offer an extra ear when kids need someone to talk to because sometimes children just find it easier to open up and share their difficulties and problems with their grandparents.

To tap it- A grandparent’s Love is always strong and deep, filled with memories to treasure and keep.
