Mind O Mind
“Mind O Mind magic and mystery,
for it dates back to history.
Mind O Mind rewinds the past,
for it runs in the future so fast.
Mind O Mind is attention and retention,
for it actually is divine intervention.
Mind O Mind is action and reaction,
for it is creation and destruction.
Mind O Mind plays games, no one can name,
for it needs patience to tame".

Progressive Mindset
The part-1 of this post
released on 21st February, 2021, discussed characteristics of ‘Inflexible
and Flexible’ mindsets in detail. I also wrote about steps for discarding some old
ways of thinking, focus on inner self etc. In this latest post, I have tried to
throw light on progressive (growth) mindset which essentially means having
self-belief that we are controlling our own destiny. It is assumed that everyone can change their mindset by going
through their own life experiences. It also depicts how success in life can be inclined
by having views about our talents and capabilities. As per studies conducted
earlier, when we bind the power of progressive mentality, it leads to accomplishing
the career success. Therefore we need to ensure
that the vitality of
our mindset remains intact by periodically sweeping negativities and unwanted thoughts. I have briefly
shared legendry Michael Jordon’s story to get an update on progressive mindset.
Michael Jordon’s father, a poor man once gave Jordon,
then 11years old a second hand T-shirt to guess its price. Jordon replied may
be $1. His father asked him to sell this in $2. Jordon washed and ironed it and
went to the market and sold it for $2. Few days later his father asked him
to sell the same T-shirt in 20 Dollars. Jordan was surprised and consulted one
of his friends and swiftly pasted a Mickey Mouse sticker on the T-shirt and
went to sell it near a school. He sold it for $20 and received an extra $5
tip. Few days later, his father asked
him to sell the $1 T-shirt for $200. He was taken aback. As luck would have it,
he came to know that Hollywood actress Farrah Fawcett was visiting the city. He
somehow managed to reach near her and requested her signatures on the T-shirt.
Having obtained the signatures, he put up a poster in the market “Farrah
Fawcett’s signature T-shirt on auction for $200”. Many people assembled and one
person agreed to pay $2000. Jordan returned home triumph and gave $2000 to his
father.

The above story highlights three important factors
that need to be developed for a progressive and growth mindset Viz. ‘Conceive, Believe and Achieve’. Self-belief is a trait that can be developed and rebuilt provided
one is confident to the hilt. "Nobody can make us feel inferior without our
consent. "A progressive mindset necessitates
to be a ‘Performer come what may’. Unfortunately in practice, we often
become our own enemy and some of us sabotage happiness due to our unsettled
thinking, beliefs and attitudes. Even knowing
that our thoughts and beliefs are not serving the purpose, yet most don’t try
to change. This may possibly be due to their emotions that may either put them
into action or prevent them from performing.
Most failures/ delays/ obstacles are largely due to our being
consistently inflexible.

Growth Initiatives
Our mind-set affects our life outstandingly and plays a principal role in personal branding. A progressive mindset therefore is the power behind successful personal branding. Mind-set is a self-driven process and begins by getting rid of fears and past disappointments. A personal branded mindset to me is the sum total of our attitudes and thought process-- “I have to win,” “can do, and do it now” and not “why should I do it”.
It is
extremely important to understand and identify our self-identity and be
self-aware before we develop suitable growth initiatives. This precisely means
fully conscious of our emotions, confidence, values, ethos, principles and beliefs that need to get reflected in the
mindset. We need to start living with these factors by constantly working on
their improvements. As it is said, “Be a writer of your life and reader of your mind. The more you know yourself,
the less you need approval of others”. A common
problem faced by most of us is our mental blocks- a fear that prevents us
performing a difficult task. At times we focus on wrong things, lack self-belief,
difficulty in handling pressures etc. Mental blocks are generally created by our
negative thinking and attitudes. The
moment we overcome mental resistance; we experience a marked improvement in our
quality of life and enthusiasm to fight failures and disappointments. Progressive
mindset is a stable mind that normally adjusts to any
situation/environment/people. Attaining the stage of stability off course is a
difficult cup of tea as it requires an attitudinal/behavioral change. This can
be done only by controlling our emotions, being patient, improving listening
skills and above all controlling our reactions to situations. Progressive
mindset leads to improvement in quality of life, reduction in day to day
stress, helps improving people skills and assist in managing people
sensitivities.

Reactivate Yourself
It is advisable to be a self-coach and help create an inner drive to activate the mindset for building a suitable base to incorporate characteristics of flexibility, stability and other initiatives. As per growth parameters, essential virtues can be developed through our sustained efforts, practice and experience. A growth initiative sees failure not a drawback, but as a ladder to success. Incorporating growth initiatives helps greatly in career development and success.
1 Self-belief is about finding and binding our inner strength to cross several hold ups and obstacles we come across on our life
journey. The most essential thing is to never give up and also our
reactions to speed breakers. It gives flip to beliefs in our values, knowledge,
and capabilities.
2 Flexibility encourages a
participative culture for brain storming and working towards the goal. Some people
have the tendency of collecting information which is of no direct concern to
them just to see what is going on in their vicinity/friend circle/family
relations. Little do they realize that they are stuffing their mindset with
garbage? Our mind is a store house of knowledge and energy. Do not allow it to
get crowded with thoughts/information which is of no direct concern to us.
3 Our
intent always has to be ‘Do it right the first time’. We need to be open for
accepting mistakes graciously and carrying suitable corrections. Don’t stop
listening to others and feel that learning from others will amount to our
insults.
4 Change of behavior is undoubtedly a difficult ball game. It calls
for willingness, commitment, and urge of all
concerned. We may have to try different techniques that may vary from individual
to individual. One has to be ready to initiate and participate in the change
process and plan steps to counter any likely hood of relapse.
5 Encourage flexible and bendy thinking that helps
evaluate alternatives which can substantially help save resources. Suppleness
in approach helps in professional movements/roles/responsibilities unlike
rigidity of getting struck in one way thinking and approach. Also progressive
mindset entails that on not achieving of goal, it shouldn’t be taken as a failure. It is a process of learning and development. A
progressive mindset entails failure
as optimistic rather than negative. We all go through hold-ups and become wiser
and learn.

6 The progressive mindset necessitates keeping our feelings neutral than displaying what we really do not mean. In the pursuit of developing relationships, we sometimes mask our inner feelings and thoughts and instead pretend love and happiness. This only adds up to our bad deeds and also generates negativity. Our children may pick up these vibes and may experiment on us in the near future.
7 Try being contented by preferably looking at ‘have nots’. The greater we focus on exterior agents for happiness, the more chances are of getting disillusioned. I am reminded of a Christian saint who once said ‘I cried for boots until I saw a man who had no legs’.

8 It is customary that
those who want to grow professionally would always be eager to receive feedback
to develop further.
To tap it-- Mindset is ‘be all and end all’ of our success,
happiness and growth. It is said that ‘winners do things differently’. I
say ‘winners outclass through their attitude of winning mindset’.
